ITHACA – The office of Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick has become the winter home of one tropical plant as part of the Ithaca Permaculture Park Project.

On Thursday, Myrick took over the winter care of a 7-foot banana plant, just one of several plants that have been part of the permaculture project located at Baker Park off of Elmira Road.

This year has been the first growing season for the project. On Saturday, more than 20 Cornell University students and community volunteers will tidy up the park and put gardens to bed for the winter, according to Cornell Cooperative Extension.
